Teaching Short Stories


With short stories I will share with you presentations and other document sheets. I will also include some of the stories as well. Some short stories I do an introductory presentation to help the students understand the timeline.

The Pit and the Pendulum

by Edgar Allan Poe

I start off with this presentation about the Spanish inquisition for background knowledge of the pit and the pendulum.



The Lottery

by Shirley Jackson

I give a presentation give a lot of background knowledge on the Lottery to make students understand better. 



The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

by James Thurber

With this story, we read it in class and have students find a partner and write a daydream together.

Summary, Analysis, and Reaction to a Short Story

At the end of the unit I have students write a summary, analysis and reaction to a short story that we have not read but is on a given list.
