February 2018 Book Reviews

Hi All!
I thought I would start off the New Year (a little late oops!) with a new series! I love to read books and love discussing them with others! I try to read almost every night before bed and sometimes during the day but life is crazy busy so that does not always happen! During the school year it's hard for me to read as much as I like but I still do read rather frequently. Like I said,  I really enjoy discussing books so I thought discussing books on my blog would be a great forum! I will try to give a short synopsis of the book, give some thoughts I had during the book, maybe a quote or two that I loved (unless theres a bajillion I love!) and then a wrap-up of my thoughts if I liked the book or not and if I would recommend it, etc. I hope you enjoy this and find it interesting! Also there will possibly be spoilers!!!

The Fever Code by James Dashner

Synopsis (Taken from Goodreads): Once there was a world's end. The forests burned, the lakes and rivers dried up, and the oceans swelled. Then came a plague, and fever spread across the globe. Families died, violence reigned, and man killed man. Next came WICKED, who were looking for an answer. And then they found the perfect boy. The boy's name was Thomas, and Thomas built a maze. Now there are secrets. There are lies. And there are loyalties history could never have foreseen. This is the story of that boy, Thomas, and how he built a maze that only he could tear down. All will be revealed.

So in short, if you have read the Maze Runner Trilogy and are interested in learning about how the maze was built this is for you. I personally would recommend reading this after you have read the Trilogy. There is a book prior to this titled 'The Kill Order,' but I have yet to read that one. . . It's on one of my TBR shelves.

Some Thoughts: At first I thought that the book started rather slow and boring, maybe since Thomas was so young, it was hard to relate to? As Thomas grew older it became more interesting. A question that I had during reading the book was how old were the kids at different points? At each chapter some numbers are given but I had no clue as to what those stood for. Another question I had arose in Chapter 35 - was not Alby alone in the maze for a month? Or is that just a movie portrayal? Something that somewhat confused and irked me was that the terms that were used in the Trilogy were just thrown in randomly. Although most readers would come in and have prior knowledge of the books it should have been written from the beginning explaining terms like gladers. Also was I the only one who was somewhat weirded out by the Purge scenes? I understand the necessity of the situation but it seemed so extreme. Finally, the whole epilogue really confused me. Since they tricked Thomas could they also have tricked Teresa with the memory removal? I wish that more would have been covered in the epilogue because now I am rather confused and curious about her. It does make sense how he did end it because otherwise too much information could have been given.

Wrap-Up: Although this book started to improve as it continued, it was not one of my favorites. It did leave me curious a the end which is always good as a reader but I do not believe that we will get any material to supplement this. I would probably not reread this book but will hold onto it because then I will have the complete series. I would give this around a 3/5, since it started to get better but took at least half of the book to do so.
